Bowguards, meant to protect the arm from the backlash of a bow after the arrow is fired, have long been appreciated as objects both utilitarian and beautiful. Navajo master silversmith Harrison Jim has taken things a step further. His bowguards are worn as body decoration. This one has a medallion with four deeply etched and oxidized wing-like designs, along with five cabochons of sky-blue Sleeping Beauty turquoise. The edges are scored with lines representing rain. The effect is of a lovely butterfly encased in a silver shield. Between the edge and the design is a deeply scored frame of oxidized silver. The silver is mounted on a 3.25” wide and 9 long band of leather. A cobbler can easily punch the holes or it’s do-it-yourself with a hole punch. The ties can also be replaced with snaps. Leather included, this piece weighs 1. The center medallion is 3” from top to bottom and 2 3/8” side to side. Harrison Jim is a very highly regarded artist and this is a beautiful example of his work. THIS PIECE HAS BEEN REDUCED TO WHOLESALE. View more great items.
