Edith Tsabetsaye, Concho Belt, Sleeping Beauty Turq, Silver, Zuni Handmade, 45 in. Zuni artist Edith Tsabetsaye started making traditional cluster jewelry in the 1950s. She excelled at this popular style, but she knew she wanted to do something different. A new style of stone work was invented in Zuni during the late 1940s. When Edith decided she would make needlepoint pieces the technique was in its infancy. The idea was the same. Consistency in the color, size and shape of the turquoise stones. Also, the small needlepoint cuts would be set in cluster patterns. Edith took it to another level. She didn’t just shape turquoise into boring skinny rectangle cuts. Edith masterfully transformed her stones into these individual works of art. You immediately recognize an Edith Tsabetsaye cut by the high dome and crescent shape. It is hard to imagine shaping one stone like this, but she does it to every stone she sets. This belt is filled with 1212 perfectly matched Sleeping Beauty Turquoise stones. It took three years to complete this eleven piece belt. Every time she brought us a concho we knew that this was going to be something very special. Edith completed the belt just in time for the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. Her handmade creation won “Best in Category” in the lapidary division. We asked her if she would be interested in doing a coral belt, but thought maybe this would be the last belt she would make. We are extremely reasonable, but the inspection offer is provisional–exclusively at our option. This is a service that most companies would only offer to established account customers. Each of our pieces is unique and carefully photographed. If you are a regular customer, lets just say, we will be much more generous. Thanks for doing business with Perry Null Trading Co!
